What and Who is Mustache? What is their empire's aim?
Mustache is a new way of thinking about brands. Born from an advent of convergent technologies, social interaction and advanced production techniques in apparel and printmaking we hope to bring you our cooperative vision of the future and a new take on what brands are and what they could be. Or in simple terms, we're not going to do what others have done. Game changers.
"We" are a cooperative of graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, painters, writers, musicians, thinkers, skateboarders and journalists who under a unified umbrella are creating the alternative to the primarily "greed" driven "brands" that dominate the realm of fashion and lifestyle "brands" today. Not that making money isn't one of our goals, when we talk about "greed" we are speaking in terms of overall human costs. Dehumanization is running pretty rampant these days. That's why our pledge is to tell you our goals upfront. We aren't out to mass market ourselves so that one day we sit along side other logos on the racks of chain stores with a diluted message and profit over everything attitude. Nor will we sell our souls to become just another "brand" in the portfolio of a large corporation, selling our name to fill their need to obtain a "target demographic." The roadmap for that future is already drawn out, and it ends with a sheer cliff and no winners.
How are we implementing this different take? First, the designers of all of our products retain the rights to 65% of the profit for their creativity and exhaustive work. So when you lay out your hard money for an item, you're directly supporting the genius mind behind your new favorite thing. We also care about where and how are products are made. Our t-shirts are exclusively printed on American Apparel because quite frankly we admire their effort to manufacture within the United States and fairly treat their employees.
